CSO CAPACITY BUILDING

In promotion of active citizenship and people’s participation, the Eco Schools Programme uses a people centered approach, with advocacy through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP

Coalition building among Civil Society Organizations as formal networks that enhance effective advocacy, government engagement on policy reviews, quality education and implementation of the of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD.

According to Global Action Programme on ESD 2016 (http://www.unesco.org/new/en/unesco-world-conference-on-esd-2014/esd-afte)
Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development (PESD) consists of individuals, organizations and institutions dedicated to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

It is from this background that CECOD chose to empower CSOs, conservation and environmental education NGOs, faith based communities, living institutions, youth advocacy organizations and government agencies to implement ESD policy and scale up the Eco schools best practices for a Sustainable Future recognizing the call by the UN General Assembly for a Decade of Education for Sustainable development that was launched in 2005 through 2014.
Building the capacity of CSOs, the principles underlying sustainable development are separated into social, economic, and ecological dimensions. The economic growth is analyzed critically and regarded as a requirement for development where people must be environmentally conscious, prosperity is fairly distributed and where there is growth of the human resource capital.

The social dimension points out the importance of resources, power, policy and influence that determine equity and that people can feel secure and can participate. These three dimensions are integrated with each other as they are interdependent and mutually reinforcing. The CSOs are encouraged to mainstream ESD principles within their operations for active citizenship.
